The extension of the Q train up Second Avenue from 96th Street to 125th Street in East Harlem, with three new stations. The line has been planned since the 1920s, and only its first phase has been built.
The MTA board awarded a roughly $1.97 billion tunneling contract in August 2025, to Halmar and FCC Construction. Heavy construction was due to start in early 2026, with the boring itself expected in 2027 and opening targeted for 2032. The project is budgeted at about $7 billion.
