A rebuild of the whole Stuttgart rail hub, replacing the old terminus with an underground through station under a roof of large chalice-shaped columns. The project includes new tunnels and lines, four new stations and a link to the airport.
Work started in 2010 with opening planned for 2019. In June 2026 Deutsche Bahn moved the opening to December 2031, the ninth delay, because the digital signaling and much of the cabling must be redone. The cost rose to about €14.5 billion.
