A new high-speed railway between London and Birmingham, about 225 km of new line. It is the largest infrastructure project in Britain, with new stations at London Euston, Old Oak Common, Birmingham Interchange and Birmingham Curzon Street.
The northern legs to Manchester and Leeds were cancelled, and the project went through a full reset. In May 2026 the government put the cost at £87.7–102.7 billion and said the first trains, between Old Oak Common and Birmingham Curzon Street, should run between May 2036 and October 2039.
