A new standard-gauge railway linking Tallinn, Riga and Kaunas with the Polish border, connecting the Baltic states to the European rail network for the first time. Passenger trains are designed for up to 249 km/h.
Construction is under way on the main line in all three countries. The EU's auditors said in January 2026 that the first phase would cost about €24 billion and would miss its 2030 target, and Poland's deputy infrastructure minister has said the full line will not be done before 2040.
