A new E4 motorway west of Stockholm, running 21 km from Kungens kurva in the south to Häggvik in the north. More than 18 km is in twin three-lane tunnels, as deep as 60 m below ground and under Lake Mälaren, making it one of the longest urban road tunnels in the world.
The first stretch, between Häggvik and Hjulsta, opens on December 6, 2026, and the whole road should be done in 2030. Trafikverket estimates the cost at SEK 51.0–53.5 billion, paid mostly from Stockholm's congestion charge.
