Not a skyscraper but one of Paramaribo's tallest structures: the twin-towered Catholic cathedral in the historic center, whose towers reach 44 meters to the bronze cross. It is described as the largest wooden building in the Western Hemisphere, with an interior of unpainted Surinamese cedar and room for about 900 people. The historic inner city of Paramaribo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Frans Harmes designed it. Building started on January 30, 1883 on the site of a former theater, the church was consecrated in 1885 and the towers were finished in 1901. After years of tilting and termite damage, a European Union funded restoration ran from 2007 and the cathedral reopened on November 13, 2010. Pope Francis made it a minor basilica in 2014.
