Egypt's first high-speed railway, a 660 km line with 21 stations linking Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea with Cairo, Alexandria, New Alamein and Marsa Matrouh on the Mediterranean. It stops at Capital Central Station in the New Administrative Capital, and high-speed trains will run at up to 250 km/h.
It is the first of three planned lines totalling about 2,000 km, with the second running through Upper Egypt to Abu Simbel. In October 2026 the transport minister set July 2027 as the start of passenger service on the first line. Siemens Mobility's share of the work alone is worth about €8.1 billion.
