A planned underground heavy-rail line under the Sepulveda Pass, running from the San Fernando Valley to the Westside along the 405 Freeway. Metro says it would cut the trip to about 20 minutes.
The Metro board chose the underground route in January 2026, at an estimated $20 to $25 billion. It is still in design and environmental review, with no construction date, and some sources expect opening in the mid-2030s.
