One of the twin office towers of the Parque Central complex in El Conde, central Caracas, a state housing, office and cultural development with eight residential slabs, museums and theaters. When the West Tower opened in 1979 it became the tallest building in South America, a title the twin towers held until Gran Torre Costanera in Santiago passed them in 2011. Until 2003 they were also the tallest in Latin America.
The complex was built for the state company Centro Simón Bolívar, with construction by Delpre C.A., whose head Enrique Delfino Arriens proposed the project in 1969. The West Tower was completed in 1979 and its twin in 1983. In November 2013 a small fire on the 16th floor led to the evacuation of 420 people without injuries. The Skyscraper Center lists 225 meters and 56 floors; other sources give 59 floors.
